Developmental Evaluations

Understand Your Child’s Social and Emotional Development

A Developmental Profile is a powerful way to understand how your child learns, relates, and engages with the world. At Bloom, we offer developmental profiles for children ages 18 months through 12 years to help parents gain a deeper understanding of their child’s social and emotional capacities and the factors that support their growth.

Through this process, we explore areas such as:

  • Sensory regulation and arousal states — how your child processes and responds to sensory input

  • Communication patterns — how your child expresses themselves and connects with others

  • Emotional learning — how your child experiences, understands, and manages feelings

  • Relational capacities — how your child interacts within the family dynamic, particularly with parents and primary caregivers, and how these relationships influence their development and emotional well-being

You will receive a detailed written profile that highlights your child’s current developmental level and next steps for growth, along with personalized recommendations for how to support these skills at home.

What to Expect

The Developmental Profile process includes three steps:

  1. Parent Interview (Virtual)
We begin with a virtual meeting to learn more about your child’s history, strengths, and areas of concern. This conversation helps us understand your goals and what matters most to your family.

  2. Child Play Session (In Person)
Your child visits the clinic for a play-based session where we observe their developmental capacities in real time. Through natural interaction and play, we assess regulation, communication, and emotional connection.

  3. Parent Feedback Session (Virtual)
Once your child’s profile is complete, we meet again to go over the results  and recommendations. You’ll receive clear guidance and simple, practical strategies you can begin using right away to support your child’s growth at home.

Parents often tell us that the profile helps them see their child in a new light. It moves beyond scores and labels to give a fuller picture of who their child is and what they need to thrive.

Our goal is to help you feel empowered, informed, and equipped with tools that make development through daily life more connected and manageable.

FAQs

  • No. This is not a standardized test or evaluation, nor are we testing whether your child has autism or not. The developmental profile is an observational and relational assessment that looks at how your child engages in real-life interactions.

  • The full process typically takes about 2–3 weeks from the initial parent interview to the feedback session. After your child’s play session, we take time to carefully synthesize our observations and write your child’s personalized profile.

  • Not at all. Some families seek a developmental profile because their child has a diagnosis such as autism or ADHD, while others simply want to understand their child’s emotional or relational patterns. The process is individualized for every child.

  • Yes. The developmental profile can be a helpful resource for your child’s school team. It provides a clear picture of your child’s social, emotional, and sensory needs, which can inform accommodations, classroom supports, and individualized goals within their IEP. Many families share the profile with teachers, therapists, or other professionals to ensure that everyone supporting their child is working from the same developmental understanding.
